Produced by Dr Kate Pitt, Faculty for Inclusion Health member and GP in homeless and inclusion healthcare, this document is designed for frontline workers in the homeless sector, who do a vitally important and challenging job. The aim is to provide practical, evidence-based, guidance for frontline workers supporting people with liver disease and cirrhosis. The document was developed based on feedback from frontline workers, inclusion health clinicians, and liver specialists.
The prevalence of liver disease, and the number of deaths from liver disease, has been rising nationally. Liver disease is more common in people experiencing homelessness and other marginalised groups. With the right care and support, people with liver disease and cirrhosis can be helped.
Read this document for advice on talking to people about their liver health, signs and symptoms of liver disease, common tests and medications, nutrition, cognition, and palliative care. Links to further resources are included. Two versions of the guidance are provided:
- Practical illustrated booklet with hyperlinked contents.
- Supporting document connecting recommendations to published evidence and guidance.
