Professor Kamila Hawthorne MBE is a highly respected Welsh general practitioner and medical academic. She has 31 years of front-line clinical practice in some of the UK’s most deprived communities, having qualified from Somerville College, Oxford, in 1984, and completing her GP training in Nottingham in 1988. With wide experience of general practice and running community projects in diabetes and heart disease, Kamila has been named ‘GP of the Year’ twice and was awarded an MBE in 2017 for services to General Practice.
Kamila has extensive experience as an academic medical educator and in national leadership roles. She was Chair of the RCGP Council up to December 2025 and is currently Chair of the National Academy for Social Prescribing and on the Trustee Boards of the Kings Fund and Moondance Cancer Initiative. She is a Bevan Commissioner, a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College, Oxford.
