Dr Elspeth Carruthers is an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College London and a respiratory trainee in North West London. Her research focuses on health inequalities in respiratory disease and she is currently undertaking an epidemiological study of the burden of respiratory disease among people experiencing homelessness in the UK.
She undertook IMT training in North Central London and an Academic Foundation Programme at UCL, where she worked on an NIHR-funded study into access to primary care for inclusion health groups. She was a 2022-23 National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow based at the UK Health Security Agency.
Prior to medicine Elspeth did a degree in Arabic and French and worked for the human rights charity Reprieve. She has volunteered for many years with migrant and refugee charities including as an interpreter for Medical Justice, a clinic support worker for Doctors of the World and as a trustee of the Baobab Centre.
